Strange… I dated an abusive asshole who was always nice to waiters, but not nice to me.  Maybe he was trying to prove that he was a nice person by being nice to people that aren’t close to him.

Eh, note that it doesn’t say that someone who’s nice to the waiter IS a nice person, just that if they’re not nice to the waiter then they’re not a nice person.

So I suppose the converse of this is “A person who is nice to the waiter but not nice to you is also not a nice person.”
